Quartermaster's Office
3rd Brigade, 4th Division, 17th Army Corps
Department of the Tennessee
Natchez, Miss.,
Nov 3rd 1863.

Dear Minerva

Lieut Farley [i.e., Lt. James A. Farley, Co. C, 53rd Indiana Infantry] is now waiting for a boat and may get off this Evening. -- I have got three specimines of my Photograph which I send by him. I am to get three more but they will not be done before tomorrow. If he does not get off until they are ready I will send them. -- I doant know that any of my friend would want one but I am getting Six taken, so that you could keep one and give one to John and one to each one of my sisters if they wish it. If they all get there you can make that kind of a desposition of them

but if only the three you can let two of them have one Each the others you can take up yourself if you come down. -- I am not atall satisfied with them. I doant like the position I was placed in and I think there are other defects about them. But I had got worn out, trying It was after fifteen sittings that I got these and concluded I would "rest the cace"
I have had no letter from you of a late date So that I know nothing about whether you are prepareing to come dow with Lt Farley or not, -- I have believed and still think you will, -- If you come you can get some good seamstress to assist you in your preperations for I want you to pay some attention to that
Bring money Enough with you to take you home again if it should happen

Page 3      Images (pages 2 & 3): 150 DPI100 DPI72 DPI

that we should be gone -- If you have not already done so pay your Taxes, and the balance of your funds you had better get Jefferson Snyder or Mr Sharp or some man to take until you get home again who you are statisfied will pay it back to you when you get home -- Take a note for it
I believe I have Exhausted myself of instructions and suggistions and had better close

Your affectionate Husband
George Thomas

Nov 4th 1863

"The very latest"

I was inhopes I could get the other three pictures at the last moment and it is yet possible but not probable. This is writen on the boat -- Farley is aboard and she will start in a short time. So will the pictures be done in an hour If they all come

Page 4      Images: 150 DPI100 DPI72 DPI

give them out as directed of they wish them
If you come down you had better bring some of your Summer cloths as much of the weather is pleasant enough to wear light Clothes
No More

George Thomas

If you care bring a jar of Butter I would like for you to do so, you will be interested in it your self if you doant like strong butter
