MartinsBurg V.A. July the 20 1863

Mr. A. R. Shipman I Seat myself this day to drop you a few lins to inform you of the los of your Son Albert he got Shot am yesterday th 19 in a fight we had [illeg] martinsburg V.A. he was Shot in the right Side but whether hit in his in Sids or not I cant Say for the yankees too him off befor we cold get him out but if the ball did not not rang in his in Sids I dont think bit dangers W. T. Boyd was kild in the Sam battal If I hear anything Els about him I will let you no as Son as I can he went in the battal dismounted to Sharp Shoot and when he Started in he told told Jackson Kyirkendall [i.e., Pvt Jacob R. Kuykendall, Co. G, 1st North Carolina Cavalry]
