Dear Father

I received your ever welcom letter of the 16" it found me well and all of the rest of the boys I have no news to tell I was over to the 28" OVV and saw Henry Ford he is well and so is Charley Reece but they had grown so that I scarcely new them I suppose that the 15 & 17 A C start for the north tomorrow morning I would not care if I was going

But I think we shall not be far behind them for I think we shall go by RR after it is repaired and that will be better than to march through Johnson [i.e., General Joseph E. Johnston] has retained a few muskets to keep down the gurrillies and I think he wiIl do it for this reason to redeem his carracter which he has lost I would not care if I was there to help you although I shall be rather lazzy after I get home for I think that soldiers are not any to fond of work I am detailed to night for something but what I do not know I dont think I shall have

many more trick of guard to stand out I do not care when the bullets are not flying over my head that is not so aggreeable as it might be
I will close by sending you my best respects
I remain as ever

H E Randall
