Camp Near Florence
Jan 13th/65
Dear Father & Mother

This eavening I thought I would write a few lines To inform you of to days news The report is that Hood has been whiped once more by the 4 corps and cav what his loss is I do not know There has been no mail yet nor no chance to send out none and the report is that there will be none for 30 days I do not hardly credit it for all of that it may be so George Miller is my bunk mate now I heard yesterday that we should stay here for a few days yet I hope so for all we are in a large woods

I prefer almost anything to a fight we have layed here just about one week and it seem good to lay in camp and do our regular guard duty and that is rather light to what it use to be Well I will quit for this eavening

Jan 14th I rec'd a letter from you to day written the first of this month and was glad to hear that you were all well Uncle John has gone into the C.C I hope he will be so Christian like as to hurry up that tobacco for I am in need of it some what at present There is no news of any importence to write The report is that we are
