Chattahoochee River
July 15th/64
Dear Father

I am anchiously waiting for a line from you I have not heard from you yet And I would like to hear from you I do not see why that our mail does not go through more regular it always use to I am well with the exceptions of a bad cough I do not know what it will amount to yet it keeps me awake nights some The Doct say that we have the scurvy or some of us I heard that our Regt was reported unfit for field duty I hope it is so Our Corps was the first one to cross the river which we done with but little trouble for they was not looking for us

The newspapers say that the rebs are raiding around considerable but I guess it will not amount to much I guess it is to see if they cannot draw some of the troops from R but that will not work Grant has them foul I think and I believe we have them in the same fix here They appear to be trying to shun Atlanta for some cause or other unknown to me They are drifting slowly to our left They have no fortifycations of any account at the town they are 9 miles beyond They say that it is a strong position but easy to besiege But then there are so many flying reports in circulations that it is hard to find out what is truth and what is not

You saw Mat Miller at Wauseon that fellow that whispered he cut his foot a short time ago on the big toe joint The Doct says that it has to have his leg taken off it will be a hard job he just got married just before he left Well I can not think of any thing of any importence to write so I will close good by Write soon

Direct to Marrietta [sp. Marietta] Geo
With the same that I have told you before Corps Regt Co Brig Div
