Cloudy but pleasent Embark for Vicksburg at 11.o.c Toutch at Paducah to change Boats

SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 1863.

Cloudy Leave Ft Pillow at 1 AM Arrive at Memphis at 10.o.c Hospital Boat arrived from Vicksburg with sick & wounded Report Vicksburg Burned, Leave Memphis at 5 o.c. Land at Hellena [sp. Helena] at 11.o.c

 

THURSDAY 4

Pleasent, arrive in Cairo this morning, Receive two Letters Prospect favorable for getting payed off Leave Cairo for down river at 11 oc in afternoon Arive at Columbus at 1.o.c Receive our Pay Wilson CJ [i.e., Private John Wilson] Drowned, Attend The Theater, Rainy

 

SUNDAY 7

Cool & Cloudy Leave Hellena at 3.o.c Company Inspection Lay over 1 1/2 Day at the mouth of wolf river Pass Napoleon at 6.o.c Escorted by a Gun Boat

Raining like blue blases, Slept in the rain all Knight Start from Columbus at 8 o.c Pass Hickman without Halting, The great Island no 10 is passed & new Madrid Land at Fort Pillow at Dark

Very Pleasent Pass Providence at the Head of the L.P. [i.e., Lake Providence] Canal On gard Arrive at Youngs Point at 12.o.c Leave at 1.o.c for Hains Bluffs [sp. Haines' Bluff] on the yazo [sp. Yazoo], 47 Break up a sutler storm
