Started for New Berry [i.e., Newberry, South Carolina] a foot we travailed all that Eavening & only got 10 miles and put for the night with Mr Young we got to New Berry the 28th at night The 29. we taken the cars for Abbenville Distance of 60 ms we got there at 3.o'clk P.M. and started to washington Ga afoot Distance of 42 miles we got to Washington on the 31st at 1 o'clk P.M. and lay over for the night April the 1st 1865 we taken the cars at Washington and started to Coventon [sp. Covington] Ga

he Distance 90 miles left Washington 10 1/2 o'clk A.M. and arrived at Covington 7 o'clk P.M. then we Started afoot to Atlanta the same night walked until 10 o'clk A.M. on the morning of the 2nd we renewed our march we got to Atlanta on the 2nd at 7 o'clk P.M. and I am 2 days Rations & layover for the night April the 3rd taken the cars for Mobile left Atlanta at 7 1/2 o'clk A.M. we got to west Point at 4.oclk P.M. Distance 86 miles then changed car at west Point and started
